Muffy changed the way I wrote songs. It was Xmas eve about 2010 I guess.
On my Jack in my Muswell Hill flat. And I thought, I know, I’ll look at my Cement You Cunt blog and see if I can write music to one of my poems there.
About 5 mins later Horses was born. That night I seriously wrote most of Muffy and Nervous Racehorse, putting music to already written prose.
I tried to keep the poems as close to their original form as possible.
It is a really fun way to write songs.
Muffy started as a day in the studio with Andy Brook and out came these songs.
I kinda deliberately flipped them on their head, choosing to scream over acoustic recordings when the songs would have suited more melodic takes.
The energy is real. We ended up building the songs and getting creative but ALWAYS the predominant instrument was acoustic guitar.
Muffy’s mix is pretty bonkers.
