New Video; Murderers Shoe

We are dropping a ridiculous new video in the morning. TNS rereleased our debut Album Flying the Japanese Flag recently on lovely white vinyl (splatter long gone).
The video is for the opening track – Murderers Shoe. We didn’t have a clue what we were doing and it literally came together this afternoon when i was writing the captions. Mark Richards has come up with the goods as always!! Amazing one brother! He’ll be sharing it with everyone at breakfast. Yay! xxx

In the Studio

Recording studio for the next 2 days with the delightful Andy Brook (who we recorded with on Trolleys and Muffy).

Never really have a clue what i’m gonna do or how the record is gonna turn out. It is gonna be called Mr Splashy though.

My mum calls me that whenever i get near a sink. I always leave puddles everywhere. I like the name Mr Splashy. x

Wonk & Slaves Gigs Re-scheduled

Bad news, then good news.  After Slaves had to cancel the rest of our tour due to Isaac’s injury, they have re-arranged many for January 2016, and we are still joining them.

A STATEMENT ABOUT THE UK TOUR FROM SLAVES:

“Hello everybody. As some of you may know I dislocated my shoulder whilst performing the other night. I went to hospital and they put it back in for me but I am now in a sling and do not have much mobility in my arm. The doctor said I can’t drum for the next few weeks or there is a good chance it will come out again and cause some serious long term damage. Therefore we are going to have to pull out of the remaining shows of our November UK tour and they will be rescheduled to the dates below in January. All your tickets will still be valid and we will all have a very nice time together, just not yet. I’m very sorry. Totally gutted but I guess shit happens doesn’t it. Love to you all. Isaac xxx”

Due to Isaac’s injury the tour dates for the rest of November have been postponed. Original tickets will remain valid for the new rearranged dates below.

Due to demand the Leeds venue has been upgraded to the O2 Academy and a second date has now been added to Manchester O2 Ritz for Saturday 16th January. Additional tickets for Leeds and Manchester will go on sale 9am Wednesday 25th November at gigst.rs/slvs

10th Jan – Leeds O2 Academy – Venue upgrade due to demand – Re arranged date / Tickets valid
11th Jan – Glasgow O2 ABC – Re arranged date – Tickets still valid
12th Jan – Liverpool O2 Academy – Re arranged date – Tickets still valid
14th Jan – London O2 Forum – – Re arranged date – Tickets still valid
15th Jan – Manchester O2 Ritz – Re arranged date – Tickets still valid
16th Jan – Manchester O2 Ritz – Additional show added due to phenomenal demand

Unfortunately, due to venue refurbishment, the Slaves date at Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall on 25th November has been cancelled. Ticket refunds will be available at point of purchase.

The following December Slaves shows will still be taking place:
15th Dec –O2 Academy Newcastle
16th Dec –O2 Institute Birmingham
17th Dec –O2 Academy Brixton London
18th Dec – Assembly Rooms Tunbridge Wells

Gig Review; With Slaves @ UEA

A sound review of the might Wonk – oh and some obviously nice words about those silly Slaves Chaps.

“It’s my first time seeing Wonk Unit tonight, who come over as a kind of Sleaford Mods meet Goldie Lookin’ Chain. Looking like they just stepped out of some grim estate, which perhaps they have, they’re funny as hell and full of personality. But what’s great about this band are not only are they hilarious, they’re also clever and make incredible punk music. We all immediately fall in love with tracks like Nan, King’s Road Sporting Heroes, Elbows, Horses (allegedly horses were “invented by Lady Diana up in heaven”) and She Cut Her Finger.  Lead singer Alex Wonk is hugely entertaining, and incredibly confident, the kind of guy you wish was your real life buddy. With tonnes of energy and fun going on in the crowd, I see several people singing along to the songs which are often not longer than a minute long. It’s sharp, it’s sweary, it’s fond…it’s very British. They’re clearly spent many years playing in small venues but having a fucking wonderful time doing so…I feel their moment may just be coming along. Nice one, Wonkers. You have a new friend in me.”

Slaves Tour; Glasgow Gig Cancelled

GUTTED!!!   DEVASTATED!

News is tonight’s Glasgow gig is cancelled – and we’re awaiting more news to come out of the Slaves camp… after Isaac hurt his arm badly at last night’s gig.

“During last nights show in Norwich unfortunately Isaac was badly injured on stage. He was seen immediately by doctors in hospital, and today was seen by a specialist who confirmed that along with dislocating his shoulder there is serious tissue damage that requires him to rest his arm to avoid permanent damage. Given that he can’t move his arm or drum, unfortunately we have to cancel tonights show in Glasgow and are looking into rescheduling the date asap. Sorry for the inconvenience to anyone who bought tickets and thank you all for your ongoing love. More details to follow soon X – Slaves Management

POSSIBLY MORE BAD NEWS

OK so some Wonk news. Our 2 headline gigs (Friday in Whitehaven and Huddersfield on Sunday) are now in doubt due to unforseen circumstances (ie Isaac fucking his shoulder). I have never cancelled a gig in 25 years of gigging but these shows now seem logistically impossible.I’ll keep you updated as i hear more information. These dates were independent from the Slaves gigs. Really sorry for lack of information. Fingers crossed all will work out fine.
Daddy Wonk

Read the words;  http://www.fortheloveofpunk.com/review-wonk-unit-feel-wonkness/

The Wonk Unit blew me away with their album. It is creative, fast, loud, and diverse. They experiment and take risks with their sound, but for good cause because it all sounds phenomenal.

Review of Our 1st Rebellion Appearance

Wonk Unit at Rebellion

We opened Saturday at Rebellion in Blackpool – and a great time was had by all…

Written by Dom Daley & Johnny H

“First stop today is the must see Wonk Unit and the sharp as a tack lyrical observations of Alex Johnson and the ever changing line up of misfits he has gathered around him, but damn do they make a fantastic noise. Barely gone midday and the Casbah is rockin’ to the sounds of ‘You Married A Tortured Genius’, ‘Nan’, ‘Lewisham’ and ‘Donkey Of The Damned’. Alex shares a few poetic moments with the audience and has many in stitches as he explains where songs like ‘Lewisham’ come from. ‘Go Easy’ is breath-taking and ferocious and the sublime ‘Kings Road Sporting Heroes’ really is the perfect song for this festival. The ‘Nervous Racehorse’ heavy set is really cutting the mustard and Saturday is off to an early high as ‘Johnny Rambo’ closes another superb set from the mighty Wonk Unit.”
